(More customer reviews)While I have not spent enough time with these for a full review, the speakers seem to be just what I needed. The specs are extremely favorable though I was concerned about them being "water resistant" instead of being "water proof". They are the size I expected. And for those that are wondering - yes they are a pair and not a single speaker. Looking at the manufacturer's website and other online research it was not evident if it was a single or not. I will update the review after they get some use later this year.

Alpine Type-R SWR-M100 - Marine subwoofer driver - 300 Watt - 10" Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these subs to install in a friends' pontoon boat. I always go by specs first, then price, then name brand last. The power handling and free-air installation flexibility of this unit sold me, the price is reasonable, and the Alpine name and legendary build quality are just icing. I mounted this 10" sub in a cutout of the fiberglass helm station with the amp inside and the deck above, as this is the only real space available on a pontoon, and let me tell you, along with 2 pair of Legacy outdoor enclosures with a Pyle 2000w amp pushing it all this setup ROCKS! I was skeptical about what kind of sound I would get with everything being exposed but I would go with this combo any day- it rivals some car installs I have done for sound quality and volume. Now I'm looking for an excuse to get a couple more of these subs to put somewhere else.

Dont expect bass but do expect an extremely clear audio experience for what you pay. The price is excellent. I would recommend these if you need decent quality aftermarket speakers.

Bazooka MAC6502W 6.5-Inch Marine Coaxial Speaker (White) Review

(More customer reviews)I opted for the newer all white(re-designed) version of the Mac650's instead of the original teal and white ones that would have worked well with the color scheme of my mid-ninties boat because I was told that the newer ones had a much higher(93 Db, quite impressive, vs the original 88Db) sensitivity than the originals. I confirmed this with Bazooka and another reputible re-seller, as well. When my speakers shipped, the printing on the box for the newer speakers said 88 Db! Two other problems that I see with the design of these speakers are that the wires running along a brace on the back of the speaker are exposed and routed in a position that leaves them open to be cut or damaged during installation or possibly normal use/vibration, when they could have easily been integrated into the design of the brace and well insulated. Secondly, the screws provided for installation were just slightly too big for the holes in which they were meant to be located. My engineering background and just plain past experience tells me that the plastic these screws are forced into is going to crack come the first hot or freezing season these supposedly marine-grade speakers see. I used a dremel tool to increase the size of the pilot holes in the grills, but don't think anyone should have to do things like this. Based on these 3 design errors, I would not reccomend these speakers at this time. Yes, I do have a degree in Industrial design and would guess that the person who designed and packaged these speakers did not. They do sound good in combination with the Bazooka tube subwoolfer I also installed in my boat.

(More customer reviews)I spent the extra money on the Sony speakers because I thought their materials/build quality would hold up better in the harsh marine environment, but after about a month on our 38 foot catamaran these speakers started to rust! Gradually a brown streak stained the speaker from the center cone to the bottom, leaching onto the fiberglass underneath it. While they still worked, I was surprised that a Sony product would start to degrade as fast as it did. Maybe it's impossible to build a speaker that won't do this, but in that case they should come in the color brown... Oh, the sound was great, so they still get two stars.

We really wanted a matched set, but couldn't justify paying close to $100 for 4 when we really only needed 2. We were pleasantly surprised when each order was actually a pair of speakers. For under $50 we now have 4 matching speakers that look and sound great.
