(More customer reviews)I usually don't do reviews, but I am so happy with this purchase I had to. I searched around for an entire month trying to find the right receiver. I think that for the money this product is hands down a total score! It has an aux and a usb. Now, when I purchased this I was thinking on using the ipod with the aux input originally. While the usb port can be used for direct Ipod connection and memory stick media (memory stick media?!) I figured I'd only use it to charge my ipod once the bat was running low. I have heard such bad things about ipod/usb functionality in radio receivers that I never thought I would actually use it. I love my ipod, and with the 32,000+ songs I have on there, being able to quickly scroll to what I want is essential, and its pretty hard to keep track of the new stuff I put on because I don't have enough time in the day to listen to all the songs, so I do a lot of rating. trying to scroll through quickly using any receiver search button seemed like a joke and you can't rate songs when you can't use the ipods native click wheel. But i digress. The point is I looked in the manual and found "hands-on/hands/off". With the ipod plugged into the usb port on the receiver I can hit 1 and 3 on the radio and switch between the modes. Now I can use the benefits of the usb port (charging, quality sound) AAAAND use my ipods native clickwheel functionality at the same time. I don't even use the aux anymore! and whenever I decide I want to listen to the ipod on random i just push button 1 on the radio and my artist/album scroll across the screen and I am still happy. The only thing so far that is negative are:
1.the screen during the day is almost impossible to see with sunlight on it. it just looks pink.
2.when using the awesome usb mode i quickly mentioned up top.....for the first 30 seconds in either hands-on/hands-off mode you get a little song distortion because it is loading up i guess. Like i said i have over 30,000 songs and if i get 2 noise interruptions for a second a piece for the first 30 seconds of run-time and thats it, i'd say this is an outstanding product for all who love using there ipods in the car! buy it. u will be very happy. also, I have 4 polk audio db and they sound outstanding with all but a tiny fragment of songs in the hip-hop genre.

(More customer reviews)First of all, I made the mistake of not paying enough attention, and consequently did not notice that it does not say anywhere that this device plays CDs; however, that is my own fault, and I have no right to complain.
Once you get over that fact, this really is a great player. I don't think that I would want to use CDs in the stereo, even if I had the option, because using the SD cards or USB port is so much better. The sound quality is very good, and installation was simple (I used an install kit). The device looks like it came with the car, and does not look out of place at all.
There is no restriction to the size of SD card that you can use (some other similar devices will not read the card if it is over a certain size; ex: it will play files from a 512mb card, but not a 2gb card).
Also, you can have an SD card and USB device plugged in at the same time, and it is easy to switch back and forth between them. It will save your place in the track when you turn off your car, or plug in another device (ie, if you're playing songs off of your SD card, then plug in your USB to listen to that, then remove the USB, it will pick up where you left off on the SD card).
You don't have to save songs under a particular file name on your SD/USB in order for the stereo to find them, which makes things easier. It will also play songs in the order in which they are listed on your SD or USB, so you don't have to worry about them playing in some random order; unless you want them to, in which case, there is a random option. (There is also a repeat option).
You can skip tracks, forward or back, and there are also buttons to skip 10 tracks at a time, forward or back. The only problem that I have discovered with the player at this time, is that there is no fast forward or rewind, so you cannot search within a track, which can be a problem if you are searching for something specific in a very long track, like if you are looking for a specific spot in an audio book, for example.
The volume knob is large, and easy to find. The power button doubles as a mute button after you have turned the stereo on, which is useful when you are using the radio. When you are using an SD or USB, the first of the radio station preset buttons is used to pause the track. It comes with several preset equalizer settings, or you can tweak the treble/bass yourself. There are also controls for fade and balance. There is a loud button, to turn up the bass, which is useful when traveling on the highway, and there is a lot of noise.
It uses ID3 tags, and when a track is playing, the display scrolls between artist name, album, track title, and the track number/current time of track. The display is big, bright, and easy to read.
The aux-in port is easy to use and find, and you just use the controls on your mp3 player to control things.
The sound quality for the radio is very good, and it is easy to set the station presets.
I haven't bothered fiddling with the clock, because I have one built into my dash.
The aux-in, SD and USB ports are all on the front of the device and very easy to find. Oh, and by the way, the SD cards have to be inserted upside down. It took me about half an hour to figure why my SD card wasn't reading.So, like I said, the only problem I could find was no fast forward/rewind. Other than that, this device is the best one I've ever had in my vehicles.
This was my first ever review, so I hope it was informative and helpful.

Sony MEXBT3700U CD Receiver Bluetooth Hands-Free with Integrated Microphone (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I got this head unit because I got an iphone 3GS (previous iphone models do not have Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP)) and wanted something that would give me as many options of integrating it with the car stereo as possible without spending a ton of money. I also didn't want to have to pay extra for the bluetooth attachments that you have to add on to the bluetooth ready head units.
-BLUETOOTH AUDIO STREAMING
The audio bluetooth streaming is great sound quality is very good (I am not a picky audiophile so can't say if sensitive ears would notice anything wrong with the quality), I actually listen to local radio stations through their internet streams through the iphone then bluetoothed to the car stereo because its better sound quality then what I get out of the tuner (any tuner not just this one, I live in a bad radio reception area between 2 markets). The stereo usually picks up my phone (for both phone and audio) within 30 seconds of turning on the car. I have had to reset the bluetooth (takes about 20 seconds, push one button twice) every few weeks because it will start to get skippy but it is a pretty minor inconvenience. Listening to Pandora through the Iphone to the car stereo is awesome, and has greatly improved my commute.

-Bluetooth Phone connection
Connects within 30 seconds of starting the car. Sound quality is good. And the microphone that is built in actually works well, this shocked me I was sure I would have to either yell or buy an external mic but the one that comes in the head unit picks up my voice fine I have not had a complaint about people on the other end of the call not being able to hear me. Another good thing about the mic being built in is that it saved me $60 on the installation that they would have charged me to install an external mic. The transition between phone call and what was playing before the call is automatic and fluid.
-USB input
I have not gotten a chance to use this because the bluetooth has worked well. It would be nice if it had a USB on the back of the unit in addition to the one on the front so that you could run a wire hidden behind the console plastic and have it connect where ever you wanted it to without it cluttering up the car (that is the main reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars).Overall I love this unit because it was fairly cheap and it does exactly what I wanted it to do in respect to integrating with my Iphone.

The speakers that came with this radio have Great! bass and I am so glad they were included, I was just looking for a radio/cd player because I thought my speakers were ok, but they were falling apart when I went to change them for the new ones. * Looks and feels well-built / solid
* Auxilary input in the front (3.5") allows for easy connecting of MP3 players / cell phones (particularly useful since the Bluetooth is worthless on this device, per below)
* Comes with a small remote
2. The negative
---------------
(1) The Bluetooth: Drops out all the time, listening to Pandora or other streaming radio through the cell phone impossible. The sound quality with the included microphone is mediocre at best. Have not tried to pair the Bluetooth with a laptop or a device with a more powerful Bluetooth signal than a cell phone, but again, I don't plan on using a laptop while driving. Hence, the Bluetooth is worthless in my opinion.
(2) For some reason, after few hours of continuous watching, the movies running off the USB start 'skipping', which can get very obnoxious. Thankfully, this only happens occasionally, and it may have something to do with overheating of components while driving in a hot summer day, even though the device has a cooling fan in the back.
(3) In addition to the $25 for the wire harness, a $15 antenna harness is required ($40 at worstbuy; I was quoted $60+ elsewhere). The radio is not HD/digital and the reception quality is noticingly worse than my stock stereo.
(4) The SD card input is very slow, taking 1-2 minutes to "load up" the list of songs on a 4GB card. The recognition is much faster with a high quality SD card with smaller capacity (i.e. 2GB Sandisk ultra/extreme).
(3) The cooling fan can be loud, and the LCD brightness is not adequate for bright, sunny days. The movies are still watchable with the screen tilted down, but much is washed out.
(6) The remote must be directly pointed at the IR sensor to work, and the layout is not very user friendly / intuitive
SUMMARY
-------
Overall, it's far from a perfect device, but comparing its price to some bigger names (which I'm guessing are no better in addressing the issues I mentioned earlier), and the amount of joy it provides on loooong cross-country drives, this system is well worth it...

The pop-out base for the iPod is horribly flimsy and the iPod will come loose any time the car turns. Also, the levels on the receiver are all screwy, and no amount of adjustment can make the audio stop sounding like there's down pillows in front of your speakers.

The volume control did not work adequately. When shut all of the way off, you still heard music. Turning up the volume, you nearly maxed output through the speakers. The bluetooth functionality did not work well either. There was constant static. In addition, when you tried to stream music, there was a constant hum on low volume. Subsequently, I returned this item and purchased another brand completely (Soundstorm - no issues with this unit with one exception - while using bluetooth, the receiver on the phone hears some static).

(More customer reviews)While I didn't purchase this unit, it was installed in the car I recently bought. It's a really nice stereo, with well laid-out buttons.
It loses 1 star for it's bright blue display (the box on the left of the unit, not the accents). There is no way to reduce the annoying brightness. I'm going to have to resort to using a small patch of window cling film to cut the brightness in half. Hopefully that will do it, because I don't want to ditch the radio for this one drawback.

(More customer reviews)I bought several of these units for resale and sold a few without any complaints from the customers. However, I recently discovered that one of the units would not play DVD. It played CD's and MP3 discs but whenever the DVD is inserted the LCD continuously displayed "Reading" and then after a few minutes the player would eject the disc.
I agree with the other reviewer that even though the price is very attractive, the quality of these players is suspect. I will definitely not be purchasing any of these again. Boss is a relatively reliable manufacturer and I buy and sell some of their other products so I guess this one probably slipped past Quality Control.

(More customer reviews)I bought this radio about a week ago and was overflowing with excitement. to think i had found a radio with all these features for such a low price was beyond amazing. Here are some key things i liked.
HD Radio-
yeah, its that cool. for those of you out there that are skeptical of whether or not HD Radio is worth your money, ill go ahead and answer that question for you. yes. yes it is. I wasnt sure myself before i bought this but it was like rediscovering radio. for people who aren't sure how it works, its like this. HD doesn't have its own band like AM, FM, or XM, but it improves the FM sound quality. and single stations can have more than one channel such as 97.9 HD1 and 97.9 HD2.
Sound Quality-
This radio can pump out 50W x 4 PEAK. that translates into at most 25W x 4 RMS. for a stock sound system in just about any car, THAT'S PLENTY. The quality of sound in my old speakers is much better than it was. that little radio powered my 8 speaker Boston Acoustics system. nuf said.
Ipod/ipod tagging-
Here's something you don't see often: the cable needed to unlock the full capabilities of iPod integration _is included_. music control can be done from the included remote or the radio itself. The music tagging feature is very useful as well. beware, it only works on HD stations.
Bluetooth-
Ok. the one con of this product. The bluetooth is fully compatible with H2DP, handsfree is convenient, clarity is excellent. BUT, you must first purchase the BTM 60 ($40ish) Dual Btm60 Bluetooth Interface Module before you can use BT anything. even music streaming.
Misc-
installation was easy and clearly described in the instructions.
The EQ system as well as the menu and button system is well thought out.
Included remote is very handy and useful.
Works well with MP3 players.
Music can be imported and organized from mass storage devices(e.g. thumb drive). just dont make it bigger than 4-8 GB or your in for a good wait.
Detachable face plate is nice.
dedicated SUB OUTS.
All in all this receiver is a winner. i think dual put a good amount of consideration into this and it definatly paid off. wont find a better radio for the price

(More customer reviews)Great radio until the wiring gets damaged from repeated face opening and closing. Controls would operate only while face was closed, but in that position you couldn't see the display to see what you were doing. Mine lasted almost 2 years before becoming useless.

After the install the radio worked greeat for about 2 months now it will put out no sound half the time. It will play when it wants to and only then. Dual says they will fix it I just need to remove it send it to them and wait.Guess thats why it was under $50.00

Kenwood Kdc-Bt945U CD/AM/FM/USB Receiver with Bluetooth Review

(More customer reviews)Like the previous review (which I didn't read), the bluetooth audio will only play on the front speakers, and the second tech support guy I spoke to gave me the same answer as in the previous review. Oddly enough, at first the unit worked great, with full sound for almost two days, when it switched to front speaker operation only. The first tech support guy I spoke to was unaware of the "front-speaker limit", and provided me with a long list of things to try to correct the issue. After trying them, without success, I called back and I was connected to the second tech guy who told me it shouldn't have worked in the first place. So buyer beware, but I'm hoping to return it.
EDIT: The above is my original review. It DOES work will all speakers, for BT audio and hands-free. It's just that the settings for this are somewhat hidden. After spending some more time with Kenwood tech reps, I was told that there must be a defect, so I was referred to a local repair facility. This was an authorized retailer/repair - Suburban Audio in NJ near Philly - and the repair guy there knew exactly what setting was off and I had it fixed within minutes.
The proper setting can be found only while the radio is in BT hands-free mode (page 48 of the pdf manual). The setting to adjust is "Bluetooth HF/Audio", where you can select "Front" or "All". Even though the manual describes this for voice, is applies to both voice and audio streaming.

Boss 765DBI In-Dash Solid State MP3 Receiver with Internal iPod Docking Station Review

(More customer reviews)As described on the website, this receiver looked perfect for my needs: built in bluetooth compatible with my iPhone, and a hidden iPod connection, which means no ugly wires dangling from the front of my dashboard to hook up my tunes. iPod is controllable from the front panel -- also what I wanted. Great that it had a radio, but I like to listen to the iPod and make/receive phone calls; no need for a CD player (which this unit does not have).
Unfortunately, the iPod interface is really pretty awful. I have hundreds of albums on my iPod, and there is no way to search through them other than alphabetically, and that requires turning the knob on the front of the unit. No acceleration to get you there faster. Can't search by composer, (although you can search by playlist, genre, artist, album or song) which would have been nice as I am a classical music fan. The WORST feature, however, is that the unit drops the first second of every track as it starts playing, which is totally unacceptable. I've packaged it back up and am returning it.
Oh, and the display is unbelievably coarse-- looks like maybe 100 pixels on the whole thing; the result is blocky letters reminiscent of early 80's electronics. Not worthy of the $150 pricetag.

JVC KD-BT11 Single DIN In-Dash CD Receiver with Built-In Bluetooth (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)Let me explain this product in one sentence: A steal for the price. The deck is comparable to most on the market right now other than the fact that it has bluetooth built in. I was using the bluetooth with my phone in seconds - making calls, streaming music. I have read reviews elsewhere that complain about navigating through the menu, I find these complaints unsubstantiated. Although not purely intuitive they were graspable without picking up the manual and looking things up - the only thing I had to revert to instructions for was setting the clock. The sound has been good, no objections there - and the equalizer functions are minimal but in my opinion adequate (I've had decks with crazy equalizers that have gone unused so this one was a good switch for me). I intend to add the ipod interface ($30-$40 on amazon) as well as the HD radio tuner (not on amazon at the time of the review but available for around $100 if you really look around). So, for about $300 I'll have a bluetooth, HD radio, that can control and charge my ipod (through the stereo). Try to find anything that can do all that for the same price and I'll give you a cookie.
A quick note about the bluetooth quality (in regard to talking on the phone). There is a mic in the stereo that picks up your voice as you hear the person you're speaking with through your speakers. As an artifact of this setup at times the person will hear their echo (one must deal with it). People will know they are on speakerphone, but conversations can be had with ease. So far all the calls I've made have been successful, in other words no one has said 'you've got to get me off speakerphone'. All in all I'm happy with the quality and I assume if my car were more airtight the person would hear me much better.
One potential problem: there is only one set of pre-outs, so those of you with big ideas about expanding drastically should look into a deck with front, rear, and sub outs (3 total). I however am doing a downgrade and the single pre-out worked fine for me.
