PYLE PLD3MU 3-Inch TFT Touch Screen DVD/VCD/MP3/CDR/USB Player and AM/FM Receiver Review

PYLE PLD3MU 3-Inch TFT Touch Screen DVD/VCD/MP3/CDR/USB Player and AM/FM Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just installed my Pyle PLD3MU and had the chance to do some testing with it. Overall I am impressed with all of the features and functions it has. There are some quirks and the instructions are poorly translated but for the price I feel the total package was a good deal.
DVD - It plays DVDs well - the screen is rather clear for its size. I wouldn't equate it to an ipod or iphone video screen but it has more than adequate resolution for a tiny screen. Hardly jagged edges if at all. Excellent viewing angle and lots of color/tint contrast settings that I can adjust. I'm playing the DVD through an overhead mounted LCD screen and the resolution is adequate for passenger viewing but not HD... so don't expect perfection here.
CD - the sound is great but out of the box the display of the track, time, etc is so small it can hardly be read. I am not sure if the display size can be adjusted or not in CD mode (haven't tried yet).
Radio AM/FM operation - works good; it appears the pre-sets must be done automatically, I haven't found a way to set my own stations. Since there are no preset buttons I supppose you just auto-program and skip from station to station. Not quite as fast as presets but close enough. The display is much better for AM/FM radio than for CDs, it has nice big letters and selectable backgrounds. Clock only shows military time from what I can tell (i.e. 00:00 to 23:59).
Remote control works good out of the box. Button presses are reliable. To FF or RW a DVD, hold down the skip forward or skip back buttons while aiming at the screen.
When switching between sources, there is a short period of blue screen with source name listed, then the desired selection will show.
Touch screen is easy to use and seems to associate finger vs. intent rather accurately. Not too soft or squishy. Detachable face detaches and attaches akwardly but easily enough. When removed, the rectangular LED under the disc slot blinks slowly to indicate anti-theft while the car is off. I appreciate this because higher end units seem to have gotten rid of the blinking LEDs when face is detached (at least Kenwood has).
The instructions included with the unit are sparse. Some areas not translated into english very well. However, I had no problem installing because the wiring all matches the aftermarket in-dash recevier convention for colors of wires. There is a matching wiring diagram on the bottom of the unit affixed as a sticker, in case the one in the manual gets lost or is not available. A large square connector is at the end of all the wires to facilitate testing at the factory. It must be cut off to allow for installation to a vehicle specific pigtail adapter. Manual didn't explain this.
The brake wire (gray or brown) from the back of the unit needs to go to a ground (-) source when the car is not moving (example: parking brake or foot pedal brake). If your brake activates a positive lead like my Dodge pickup, you'll need to find another way to ground the unit to be able to see the video on the 3" TFT screen. Whenever this lead is connected to ground, the video will show on the detachable face screen. The video output always shows through the video out port regardless of brake wire connection or not.

PIONEER AVIC-N4 IN-DASH DVD w/NAVIGATION & TOUCHSCREEN Review

PIONEER AVIC-N4 IN-DASH DVD w/NAVIGATION and TOUCHSCREEN
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My Corvette has only a 1.5 din radio slot, so the 1 din AVIC N4 was the perfect solution to not being able to install a 2 din in-dash unit.
My problem: My Garmin was great, but in the Washington, DC area there simply are no clear FM frequencies that will allow communication with the radio. The AVIC N4 solves that problem, because the navigation is built into the unit. One of the cool things it does is to locate addresses by punching in a phone number. Since it is satellite radio ready, I also get no interference when I'm listening to XM Radio.
As to the CD player, it simply will play any format you can put onto a CD. The DVD player is just gravy.
One annoying aspect is that the vehicle must be stopped with the parking break on before a route can be programmed. Also, the map CD must be in the unit to program a route. Ejecting the map CD will put the navigator into memory mode so you can play your CDs.
Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls through the unit without ever removing your cellphone from your belt. It allows you to store an extensive phone book of numbers.
I'm very happy with this unit.

Ok so I saw this unit here on amazon. It has a great price. I hooked it up and it sounded terrible. It says that it's 80 watts by 4. "IT'S NOT!" my factory was 10 watts per channel and it was twice as loud. The unit is good it works great, just lacks the power. I'm lucky I bought an amp for my mids. If you get an amp it sounds great. I got a 4 channel ssl evolution 400 watt amp for my mids and an ssl equalizer and it sounds great. At the end you end up paying the same amount of money as a name brand item to get the sound quality. To make this sound good u need 100 dollars more. I recommend it because it works. But it barely has enough power to make a pair of headphones sound good.

This is a sweet stereo for cheap money-i love bluetoothing my music to it via my phone and overall having it completely wireless. The one big complaint is that I have had the stereo lower the volume on me randomly. This has happened whether the volume was very low or very high. Great screen quality though for DVDs and the bluetooth talking is really clear on the other person's end. If you can deal with the volume lowering itself randomly, it is a pretty sweet radio, especially considering the price. I will respond back if it does go dead (a slight few have been known to happen with this model I found out during my research)

I've had this system for about a year. It has a very small screen but thats ok for me. The one thing i don't like is that it drains my truck battery. I've had to replace my battery twice since i bought this reciever. This is the only real flaw. Its not that bad but i would go for something a little bit better if i had the chance.

I bought this deck about 2 weeks or so ago and i couldn't be happier with it.. The EQ is just amazing in it because it has more presets then my other dual came with, but my only problem with it is that the screen is a little to bright for night driving... And with the screen down it is a little to bright, but other then that it is the best bang for the buck i have seen for a while now concidering the fact that i saved over HALF the money i would have spent in the store...
So if you are looking for a radio that looks good and performs i would buy this one, and if you are going to install this yourself dont be intimidated by all of the wires that it has i installed this by myself in my driveway in about 2.5-3hrs or so due to the fact that the sun going down and needing stuff from the house... So altogether it was a pretty simple install just about anybody with a basic understanding of wireing can do... That or do it like i did and connect the wires one by one so that you don't get them crossed...

I have lived with this unit for about 6 months or so now. and all I can say is avoid Boss like a plague! The touchscreen gets washed out by any sunlight (yes even with tinted windows). The display has many gremlins, sometimes when you first cut on the car you get a blue and white lines across the whole screen that can only be cured by cutting the car off and then back on, no just cutting off the radio or closing and reopening the screen wont work. Then when it does work just drive down the road on a hot day, then the screen turns orange or red, all you see are numbers but no words.
Ok, now the remote! big and thin with buttons that are all spaced apart the same. You cant reference any point on the remote so that you can use it without looking at it. You have to look first before you take off and then keep your finger at your reference point which for me was the volume, from there you could go up for forwarding the cd to the next track. The remote by itself will make you wish you had looked and thought about this purchase more.
The Sound, well I was able to get the music to sound good, but ReeeeeeeeReeeeeer to the beat of the excellerator had me digging for problems for the whole time I had the unit installed. The unit is just plain cheap with terrible noise filters, I finally solved the problem with a new deck from a more reputable company (ends with wood). Oh and dont let me forget when you turned off the cd player you could hear crosstalk from the radio, when you turned it all the way down you could hear the radio along with the whining screeeeeereeeeee noises.
Outputs, well the sub only had one RCA output that caused problems with my multi amp setup. i had to make one output lead over to 2 amps, by the time the signal split 4 ways there was nothing left but low out put, high noise. it sounded like trash. The front and rear had seperate left and right outputs so they where ok.
The interface, using this monstrosity on a daily basis wasnt that bad not a deal breaker but the fact that most cd controls are done on the touchscreen that didnt light up properly made it impossible to use on most days.
Bottom line is that if you dont have money for better now then blowing a couple of hundred on this thing is only gonna set you back further from a real radio! Don't waste you time or your money. My lower cost non dvd unit from a better brand (ends with wood), blew this away within one minute of install. The unit from the reputable company didn't have the noise, did have the dual sub out puts that let my amps get what they needed to vibrate my car agian. Now I can turn down the volume all the way and guess what I get? nothing! no noise, no radio talk show, no reeeeee!
Dont do Boss!
I've been installing my own gear since 1977, I have one four channel amp running front and rear, two 2 channel amps running one sub each. With this radio I had to add a cross over since they didnt build one into the deck. I have 5600 peak watts conservatively speaking i would call it 110 rms to the fronts and rears and about 500 rms from each sub amp bridged. yesterday with the boss i was ashamed to show my friends, tomorrow with the wood I'll be ridin down on'em HARD!

I was pretty scared to order one of these but the price was irresistable. I was assured by a local installer that it could be mounted in my toyota matrix, so I took a chance. Here are the results-
Good - So far it works fine. I have had it about 2 months. I listen to audiobooks using my ipod and the auxillary jack. I watch dvds with the built in player and other movies that I have transferred to SD cards. The manual has been a little confusing but these basic functions are easy. It works pretty much as advertised with no trouble so far.
Bad - Construction feels a little cheap with lightweight plastic, but everything is plastic these days. My biggest complaint is the screen. It is very bright, but resolution is low when viewing text. This is a bigger deal than you might think as the screen will show you what is on an SD card and you scroll to select a title. I can barely read the titles. The funny thing is, once your movie starts playing, it looks fine! It is only text it has a hard time with. My other complaint involves the 150.00 the installer charged me to put it in. There was a 100.00 installation fee and 50.00 for bracket and wiring harness. This was a rip off but really nothing to do with the Xovision.
For the price you cannot beat it. Just try and find a cheap way to get it installed!

this unit does what it's suppose to do. this is the first ipod radio in my truck i've owned. let me say this unit may be easier to work and go through your music then the ipod itself. a friend hooked up his ipod classic to it with thousands of songs, and found anything you wanted in the snap of your fingers. the video podcasts and dvd's played just like a dvd player, it played great. you can adjust the picture sizing several different ways. this 7in screen gives me a bigger picture to look at my video podcasts vs the ipod touch screen. i haven't really read the manual that comes with it, although the manual looks very detailed to tell you everything about the unit. i've figured almost everything out just by playing with it, very easy to use. the one concern i had about listening to music from my cd's to music stored on a ipod was sound quality difference between the two. the sound my mp3 player on my home stero unit was a lower sound than my cd's. so when it was first installed, i played some music from a cd i like, and from the same music from the cd on my ipod player. i'll say i was very happy with the sound i got from my ipod compared to the cd. the loudness, and bass boast on the pioneer makes a big difference. plenty loud enough, and the quality is very good. i've had it for a month, and i'm loving it. the place i got it installed had the same unit for $679.00 and amazon had it for $482.00. by the time i bought the unit, the remote, and the ipod cable, and the install, it came out the same price as what the car store was selling it for. very happy with my purchase.

I don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to do so in order to better reflect the true value and qualities of this deck. I have this deck installed on my skoolie RV conversion.
The BV997 is a great piece of car video/audio goodness for a reasonable price that reflects its status as slightly outdated. In other words for those looking to upgrade their current stereo without breaking the pocketbook this is a heck of a deal.
Love the ID3 tag display (my last one didn't have it) which pops up the info on all my self burned mp3 cds.
The touchpanel picture is comparable to an older netbook and very responsive to touch handling the controls. It will of course get smudgy so I keep a micro fiber cloth and lcd screen spray handy to keep it looking top notch.
The AUX input is on the front panel which is where your iPod (or any other player with a headphone jack)can plug in. It works great however keep in mind that the deck itself will NOT control your player. Personally I prefer this since it gives me greater flexibility in what is compatible and I like having the familiar player controls vs a deck that doesn't fully support it and takes flipping thru tons of menus to get the song/artist I want.
The SD card is an interesting touch that I occasionally utilize to look through camera photos instead of trying to see it with the tiny 2" lcd screen on the camera itself!
The USB port is easily accessible and works great when you pop a flash drive filled with music.
I have not yet used the rear camera input but am greatly looking forward to wiring that up and have been told by another who has this exact deck that it works like a charm and was very intuitive hooking up.
The power and expandability is where the BV997 really shines. The 85 watt 4 channel starting point sounds great but utilizing the front/rear and subwoofer outputs allowed me to expand the speaker system down the length of the skoolie easily. Added an amp to boost the power and it is an amazing sound that gets many compliments from people who think I shelled out big bucks for system.
The remote is a nice addition that comes in handy controlling the stereo while sitting in the back. Its features go way beyond your basic source/volumes. The buttons are a little small and occasionally I do fat-finger things but people with smaller fingers don't seem to have that issue.
The mounting hardware provided likely would work fine for a standard car upgrade - for my use I had to do a little retro fitting with extra screws and bracket that were easily (and cheaply) obtained by popping into a local stereo installer and picking up some of his leftovers. The user manual makes self installation by someone who has a little experience with stereo install a breeze.
In summary, this isn't a top of the line version but for those who want great bang for your buck, a whole lot of handy features, and an excellent overall car stereo the BV997 deserves your attention.

Although the radio appears to have great features like a top of the line radio, there were some defects in the unit. Note: it was professionally installed. The volume control did not work adequately. When shut all of the way off, you still heard music. Turning up the volume, you nearly maxed output through the speakers. The bluetooth functionality did not work well either. There was constant static. In addition, when you tried to stream music, there was a constant hum on low volume. Subsequently, I returned this item and purchased another brand completely (Soundstorm - no issues with this unit with one exception - while using bluetooth, the receiver on the phone hears some static).

Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD 1 Din DVD Multimedia AV Receiver Review

Great head unit! I bought this to replace an Eclipse AV8132 that recently got destroyed. This unit is much more intuitive and easy to use, far more versatile with the number of inputs and seems to be a much higher quality product to boot. Everything is set up to be as easy to use as possible. Flash memory and iPod control are plug-and-play. It simply couldn't be any easier! The only reason this got 4 stars rather than 5 is because it only has 2 sets of outputs. One more pair and this unit would be perfect!

I bought the Dual DVDN9131 at Wal-mart on 1-23-10. Today is 3-6-10 and I just shipped it back to Dual to be fixed or replaced. The unit worked fine when I first installed it, but now when I try to use the blue tooth to make phone calls people cannot understand what I am saying. My voice is Garbled like I am talking under water or something. I contacted Dual customer support and they told me to ship it back for repair or replace. I don't know what to expect from here, I have never owned any Dual products before. This radio seems to be a nice unit, I just hope they take care of the problem in a timley manner.
